Converting a Fraction to a Percent Word Problem

Keyshawn and Pedro surveyed 32 students in their school about their favorite sports. The fraction of students who preferred basketball was 17/32.

1. What percent of students preferred basketball? Express your answer to the nearest whole percent.

2. Use what you know about converting fractions, decimals, and percents to explain how you converted the fraction of students who preferred basketball to a percent.
